Geumsansa (Buddhist temple)
Geumsansa is situated in the middle of Mt. Moak, the Jeonbuk Provincial Park, 6km from Geumsansa I. C. on the Honam Expressway. Situated at the east of Geumman Plains between the Mangyeong River and the Dongjin River and bordering Geumsan-myeon, Gimje-si and Gui-myeon, Wanju-gun, the national park is particularly noted of its beautiful scenery and Geumsansa which preserves plenty of cultural assets including one piece of the national treausure and 11 pieces of public treasure, and has been the founding place of Maitreya faith, Jeungsanism and many other newly risen religions.
Geumsansa was founded during the period of King Hyegong (AD 766) of Shilla by Saint Jinpyo and the current building was built in 1426 after burnt-down during the Japanese Reinvasion in 1597. The Mireukjeon, the national treasure No. 62, is the only three-storied Buddhist sanctum in Korea.
